Sequoya: I have a 2005 sequoia and the rear door won't unlock.

Customer Question

I have a 2005 sequoia and the rear door won't unlock. I've taken off the inside panel. The handle isn't broken and everything seems to work ok but I'm not able to see the lock at the bottom of the door. Not a fun project. I need to replace a brake light and need to open the rear door to do that.

Hello. Welcome to Just Answer. Please allow me to assist you.
More often than not, the main cause of the rear (hatch) door not opening is due to a stretched cable form the handle to the release mechanism.
If I were you, I would have someone pull up on the release handle whilst you watch crom inside. When you see the release handle cable move, manually move the release lever from inside the hatch. You should bve able to do this without removing the regulator; just make sure the window is up
