1985 toyota pickup 22r. replacing timing chain on her. timing chain is on but wanting to know how to put proper tension on the timing chain.

It uses an oil pressure operated tensioner with a spring inside the plunger, with the guides installed and the timing marks aligned there should be no slack in the chain on the opposite side of where the tensioner goes, compress the tensioner by hand and install it with the two bolts, the spring will keep some pressure on it to remove the slack, when the engine is assembled and running the tensioner will take up all slack due to the oil pressure acting on it.
