check engine is on in 2001 tundra 4x4 v8.code says oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1 could this effect my gas mileage

Yes it sure could. The O2 sensor measures the amount of O2 coming out of the engine. Ideally you dont want any because you want it all to be used up in the combustion process. If the sensor is stuck on thinking it's running too lean, it will send a command to the computer to tell it to richen up the mixture, so if it's not really running lean then you are going to use a lot more gas. Best to replace it.
