Toyota Camry: 1993 Toyota Camry: Car idles very rough/stalls

This answer was rated:

1993 Toyota Camry:
Car idles very rough/stalls at all temperatures and at all running times. Have had the distributor, plugs, and wires replaced and does not seem to solve the problem. I gather that it could be:
02 sensor
Idle valve
Temp sensor
Any ideas to narrow this down? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Hello and welcome to JustAnswer.

A very common problem that causes your idle problem is the idle air control valve. This valve is located beneath the throttle body and it tends to carbon up. Before replacing it, a good cleaning sometimes cures the problem. Get some carb cleaner from the auto store and remove the intake hose off the throttle body. Turn the throttle plate to fully open and spray the cleaner into the ports on the bottom of the throttle body. When you get everything back together, start up the engine. The engine will be hard to start at first because it is trying to burn off the carb cleaner. Keep cranking the engine until it starts and runs. If the idle problem is still there. i would recommend replacing the idle air control valve.
