1994 Toyota Corolla how do you install speed sensor -

This answer was rated:

how do you install speed sensor - 1994 toyota corolla and where is it located and the car is jacked up and i am ready
Thanks for using JustAnswer.

Is the speed sensor for the speedometer? Does the new sensor have a gear on it?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

it is for the speedometer and it is a straight hollow shaft, I am talking about what they sold me and said it would fit I do not know how the one in the car is made- the hollow shaft looks like it would go over some kind of drive but it has no gears

Thanks Ralph.

You might have to swap over the gear from the old one to new one. Here's the parts location chart. The sensor is located on top of the transmission in the back.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.

the diagram you sent shows the speed sensor next to the neutral safety switch and that is in front down low on the left side and the sensor next to it is the one I started taking out and it was about an inch long with 2 wires coming out of the bottom going into the pan and I could not see what they went to I could see no gears , it looked like a shift solenoid ,if this is the speed sensor how do you replace it,do you have to take the pan off to get to the end of the wires or do I need to buy something else

Here's a better picture.

The sensor may look like it's in the front, but it's towards the back of the transmission.Look further back towards the right side drive axle.
