land cruiser: factory new distributor..new plugs..3 mechanics..towed…

Customer Question
I have professionally installed a...
I have professionally installed a factory new distributor on my Landcruiser fj80 1994, no problems there. I personally put in new plugs gapped at .032 (NGK) installed new NAPA spark plug wires correct firing order verified by 3 mechanics correct yet my LC will not start and acts like it wants to back fire. Additionally had my LC towed into the shop twice, the mechanic pulled the plugs said they were saturated with gas cleaned them, reinstalled put wires back on the way I had them. The car started drove great for about 5 miles then stalled again. Pulled plugs back out myself cleaned and reinstalled, car will not start. None of this was happening prior to the work I had done. Any suggestions? I have been unemployed for a while now and cannot handle another towing bill or shop labor.

First thing I would do is return those wires and buy a set of wires from Toyota. They'll last longer, work better, and are a much higher quality part. I can't count how many cars or trucks I've fixed by replacing aftermarket wires with Toyota wires. These trucks do not like aftermarket parts, especially ignition parts. Let me know what happens, but I'll betcha it runs great afterwards.

I have heard this before, I just did replace some from Autozone (new) for the same reason you indicated, but have heard that Belkin from NAPA are really good with no problems, would you still feel the same about anything but orignal Toyota wires?
Toyota Mechanic: ToyotaTom, Toyota Technician replied 8 years ago
Stick with Toyota wires. They cost more for a reason Wink
