No mechanical difference.

SR5 was a trim level.

What is the good, better, best, XXXXX XXXXX to purchase, IE EMPI, USA, CARDONE?

Toyota Mechanic: Dj, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 years ago

I've never had a replacement axle fail, regardless of the manufacturer. So I guess there all the same to me.

What happened to the axle on your truck?

I recently bought the vehicle and discovered the boots were worn out and opened up, thus getting dirt in and loosing most of the grease on one side and the other side had a inner cap that had been welded on. I just thought it was a good idea to replace them both.

Let me advise you on experience here, I personally have a 91 4runner... If you have any lift at all, stick with Toyota axles. I've tried multiple aftermarkets on my truck... Carquest (house brand) cardone, worldpac, etc. Any of the aftermarket ones bind like crazy, and will eat the boot (typically the inner boot) the first time I take it out and lock the hubs. I gave up, switched back to Toyota axles and haven't had any binding issues at all since, and the boots tend to last a LOT longer. I haven't had to replace them again yet... And if you don't have or don't plan on lifting it at all, you'll only have to replace them this once and go another 100k plus :)

Thank you for your help, I don't have any lift on mine so I will go with the best.

You're welcome. I learned by trial and error, tried to go cheap. Didn't work. A little extra money the first time is money well spent to only have to replace them once.
