This sounds very involved. Is it something that is easily done at home?

You can try and remove the bumper just enough to get the headlight out but this may be just something you would let a shop perform for you. It should run a bout $50-70.

I don't know what a transmission has to do with replacing the headlight assemblies. What all do I need to do to replace the headlight assemblies on a 2003 Highlander? Can it easily be done at home?

I apologize for the mix up in postings. You can try and remove the bumper just enough to get the headlight out but this may be just something you would let a shop perform for you as it really is a pain even in a shop enviroment with all the tools and a lift. It should run a bout $50-70.
