What are Synvisc and Synvisc One injections?

Synvisc and Synvisc One injections are used to control knee arthritis and delay the requirement of knee replacement surgery. Both these contain Hylan polymers that are elastoviscous fluid, derivatives of hyaluronan, a naturally occurring substance found in normal joint fluid and which is responsible for the lubricating properties of normal joint fluid. Synvisc is normally given as one injection per week for a period of 3 weeks. This medication will be effective for 6 months. There is no limit on how many doses of this injection can be taken between 6 month intervals. Synvisc One on the other hand requires just one injection. Some of the common side effects of both these medications are temporary pain, inflammation and swelling at the injection site.

What is the usual size of an IM injection of ketorolac?

An IM (intramuscular) injection normally measures between 1 and 1.5 inches in length. The smaller size is used for smaller adults and the 1.5 inches needle is used for people with a large build.

Will lidocaine cause hair loss at the injection site?

Lidocaine injection may not lead to hair loss at the site. However, surgery after the injection and the formation of scar tissue in the area can cause the hair loss.

What is the appropriate dosage of lidocaine injection?

The dosage of lidocaine injection will depend on what it is being used for and which part of the body it is given in. Depending on the length of the surgery, the dosage may vary from 50 mg (milligrams) to 100 mg as a single injection and can go up to 200 mg as continuous anesthesia.

However, blood tests may have to be conducted to check the kidney function and see if the individual requires temporary dialysis to take off excess potassium and fluids.

In what strengths is the drug alprostadil available?

The drug alprostadil is normally available in 5, 10, 20 and 40 mcg (micrograms) strengths. It need not be mixed with anything if it is bought in the liquid form.

Can Depo injections be bought over-the-counter?
