Do not take more than the recommended dose considering your body can become immune to the antibiotic.

How long will it take for penicillin and metronidazole to start working for gum infections?

Most antibiotics will take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours before they can even start to take effect. After that time phrase passes and you are still not feeling better you may have a bacteria that is unaffected by the antibiotics. You might want to have your prescription changed.
