Listed below are some common questions answered by Experts.

How to replace the distributor in a 1991 Chevy Caprice Classic 305 V8?

The process to replace the distributor on a Chevrolet Caprice Classic is very detailed and needs to be followed step by step. Start by detaching the negative battery cable and taking out the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the side of the distributor and take out its cover and wire retainer. Rotate the retaining screws anti-clockwise to remove the cap. Mark the connections and positions between the rotor and distributor housing and the housing and engine. Remove the retaining bolt on the distributor and hold-down clamp. Pull up the distributor till the rotor stops turning anti-clockwise and again make note of the position of the rotor. Take out the distributor from the engine. Put the new distributor into the engine and align the rotor to the last mark made before taking it out. Slowly install the distributor all the way in till it aligns with all the marks made while taking the old part out. Put back the distributor hold-down clamp, retaining bolt, wiring harness retainer and secondary wires. Install the distributor cap, reattach the wire connectors to the side and ensure all connections are properly secured. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

What could cause a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice Classic to stall when it is put into drive or reverse gear?

Such a problem may be caused by a leak in the fuel pressure regulator that is located on the fuel rail. It is round in shape and has a vacuum line going into it. Pull this vacuum line off and check if there is gas in it. If gas exists, then the diaphragm has been damaged and therefore unaccounted for gas is entering the engine. The regulator will need to be replaced and an Expert will be able to help in this regard.

What could cause a gurgling sound in the engine of a 1990 Chevy Caprice Classic?

The gurgling sound is probably due to a low coolant level and air pocket in the heater core. Since it flows through the core, the gurgling sound is created. The system will need to be filled with water and the leak will have to be repaired in order to rectify the problem.

How to reset the “change oil” indicator in a Chevrolet Caprice Classic?

Move the key of the vehicle to the “ON” position without starting the engine. Press down completely on the accelerator pedal and release it 3 times in a span of 5 seconds. If a light begins to flash that means it has been reset. Now move the key to the “OFF” position for about 5 seconds and then start the engine to check if the reset has worked.

A vehicle like the Chevrolet Caprice Classic has many parts that can develop problems. In such a scenario, it is preferable to get insight from an Expert who can diagnose the issue properly and answer any questions that may arise.
