Chevy Camshaft Problems
How to perform camshaft replacement in a 2008 Trailblazer that has a trouble code P0014?The Diagnostic Trouble Code P0014 actually indicates an issue with the camshaft positioning (CMP) actuator. This is attached to each Chevy camshaft and is operated by a hydraulic to change the angle of the camshaft in relation to the crankshaft position to a maximum of 25 degrees. The control module sends a modulated 12-volt signal to the camshaft positioning actuator solenoid that monitors the flow of engine oil to the CMP actuator. The CMP actuator solenoid valve will need to be replaced to resolve the problem. Take out the drive belt and move the steering pump out of the way by unfastening the pump bolts. Disconnect the electrical connector of the solenoid. Loosen the retaining bolt and remove the camshaft position actuator solenoid from the engine block. Clean the hole and lubricate it with some engine oil. Put in the new actuator solenoid and tighten the bolt to 89 lb/in. Reconnect the electrical connector and put back the power steering pump and drive belt.
What are the specifications to be followed by replacing a stock Chevy camshaft in a 4.8L Silverado?Tighten the camshaft retaining bolts to 25 Nm or 18 ft/lbs. Ensure the camshaft endplay is at a distance of 0.025 – 0.305 mm. The camshaft journal diameter should be 54.99 – 55.04 mm. The camshaft journal out-of-round should be at 0.025 mm. The camshaft lobe lift at exhaust should be 6.96 mm and at intake should be 6.82 mm. The camshaft runout when measured at the intermediate journals should be 0.05 mm.
What Chevy camshaft problems does a trouble code P0341 indicate in a 2000 Impala?Such camshaft problems can be caused by a fault in the crank sensors. They will need to be tested and checked. If the Powertrain Control Module or PCM is receiving an incorrect number of pulses on the cam reference circuit then the DTC P0341 will set off. The engine may start and run normally, however the misfire diagnostic will be affected. This fault could be due to secondary components leaking high voltage into the ignition module. Therefore, check the harness routing to see if it is fine. Also check the ignition coil arcing to wiring harness or IC module for cracks, carbon tracking or any other damage. If required, replace both the crankshaft position sensors.
Chevy camshafts can develop different problems and each issue would need a specific solution. Therefore, it is recommended to get advice from Experts who can provide the right information and answer any questions that may arise.
