What paint or treatments offer the best scratch protection for the metal bumpers on a Dodge Neon?
With metal bumpers powder coating offers greater durability than standard paint. It bonds better and is more scratch resistant. If powder coating is applied, the black primer will have to be sand blasted off before the coating is applied. If regular paint is to be used, wet sanding and the use of an adhesion promoter will increase strength and durability.
Are OEM fog lights available for fitting on the bumper of a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 and is installing them simple?
Kits that include the lights and switch are available. After the lights are installed, the dealer will have to update the VIN. The computer will also have to be reconfigured with a Wi-Tech scan tool for the lights to work. Since the vehicle will have to be taken to a dealer for updating and reconfiguration, having the installation done by the dealer may be a good option.
How are the fog light bulbs replaced on a 2013 Dodge Charger SXT and does the front bumper have to be removed?
There is no need to remove the bumper. The procedure is as follows:
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist or with jacks and stands.
- Remove the front belly pan (splash shield) from under the vehicle.
- To do this, remove the four 10mm socket bolts that hold the rear belly pan to the underside of the vehicle.
- Remove the three screws that hold the front belly pan to the underside of the wheel house inner. Do this for each side.
- Remove the four push pin fasteners that secure the front belly pan to the vehicle’s lower cross member. Do this for each side.
- The front belly pan can now be removed.
- Reach behind the front bumper fascia and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the fog lamp bulb.
- Grasp the bulb by the latching tabs and squeeze them together to free the bulb from the back of the fog light housing.
- Pull the bulb straight out.
- Repeat these steps for the other light.
- Reverse the process to complete the reinstallation.
Can the parking light bulbs on a 2014 Dodge Dart be replaced without taking the bumper off?
It is possible to replace the lights with the bumper in place, but in many cases removing the bumper cover and headlight assembly makes the job easier as there is very limited space to work in. Remove the front tire and then the access panel in the inner wheel liner. An arm can then be inserted through the opening to access and replace the bulb. This has to be done strictly by feel.
What could cause the park assist on a 2011 Dodge Charger RT to stop working and what is the fix?
There are two possible reasons for this. One is that one or more of the parking sensors in the rear bumper are damaged. If so, they will need to be replaced. The other is that the park assist programming in the vehicle’s sensor has lost its programming and will have to be reconfigured. This can only be done with a dealer level Wi-Tech scan tool.
What could cause the park assist system on a 2014 Dodge Ram 4X4 to stop working after the stock bumper was replaced by a Diamond Plate Ranch Hand bumper?
One possibility is that when the sensors were being installed in the new bumper, a glitch occurred in the park assist module. This is unlikely, but being the easiest to resolve, resetting the module should be the first thing to try. To do this disconnect both the battery cables and leave them off for five minutes. If, after they are reconnected, the system works, nothing more needs to be done. If the problem remains, there is probably a current related issue that is being seen by the module which is preventing it from operating. This could be due to a wiring, sensor issue or a problem in the module itself. The wiring and connectors should be checked for loose connections and/or damage and replaced as required. If nothing is found, a scan will have to be done to determine which of the sensors is faulty. One or more could have been damaged during the bumper replacement.
How is the headlight housing removed from a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500?
The lower bolts located between the bumper and the light assembly must be removed. Remove the turn signal light/marker and the inside edge rubber. Once the rubber edge is off, the bolts that hold the assembly in place (on the inside edge) can be access and removed. The corner light is held in place by a screw between the headlight and the marker. Remove it and the headlight assembly can be taken off.
If the airbag warning light on a 2009 Dodge Journey has started staying on for about a second longer after the front bumper hit a curb, what does it mean?
Case Details: The other lights go out a second before the airbag warning light extinguishes.
The light being on means that the system is not operational and it being off indicates that the system is functioning. As long as it is off, there is no cause for concern. However, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) can be scanned for any stored fault codes the next time the vehicle is taken to a shop or dealer to clear any stored fault codes.
