Accountant's Assistant: The Accountant will know how to help. Please tell me more, so we can help you best.

My son received social security benefits of $ 22,248 in 2017 because he has a disability. I gave him $ 39,500 to help with his expenses. Does he have to report that income from me to the IRS on his 1040 form ?

Accountant's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Accountant should know?

I did not report it as a gift from me on my form to the IRS.

Good afternoon. He does not. Pursuant to Section 102 of the Internal Revenue Code, a gift is specifically not considered income and does not need to be reported as such. In addition, a recipient of a gift has no reporting obligation with regard to a gift either.
