Im a California resident now, i work online, their company is in Florida they pay unemployment taxes there.

As a resident of California - you will be liable to pay income tax to this state.

However - your employer seems as established a working place for you in Florida and does not want to deal with California taxing authorities.

They just allow you to work from any location for your convenience - but your workplace is still remains in Florida.

You will need to start paying estimate taxes from the time you changed your residency.

Use Form 540-ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals, to pay your estimated tax installments.

Here is my situation: I live in California. I work for a company where they are located in Nevada, so I work remotely from an apartment. We are selling the company for 2.5 million dollars and I am a partner. I get 50% of the sale, so I get 1.25m when the sale goes through. I do not own any equity in the company. My question is I am planning to move back to Nevada this year to avoid the state income tax before the sale happens. The LOI is expected to be received on the 2nd week of Feb. and they have 45 days to finalize the sale. I currently still have my Nevada's DL because I use to live in Nevada about a 1.5 years ago. How does the taxes work for me in this case and how do I avoid the California State tax when I get the 1.25m … read more
