Customer Question
I am 71 years...

I am 71 years old, currently retired and receiving Soc. Securtity Benefits, and also VA Disablity Benefits for a 50% rating. I have assumed I wouldn't be eligible disability benefits from Soc. Sec. since I am retirement benefits from them.

Accountant's Assistant: Because laws vary from place to place, can you tell me what state this is in?

Colorado.

Accountant's Assistant: Has anything been filed or reported?

Nothing has been filed or reported with Soc. Sec. for disability, but I am already receiving retirement benefits from them. I am also receiving 50% Disability benefits from VA, due to agent orange exposure while in Vietnam,

Once you reach full retirement age (66 in your case), there are no further Social Security Disability Benefits (SSDI). If you had been on SSDI when you reached full retirement age, your Disability Benefit amount would not have changed, but the classification of the benefits would have automatically changed to retirement benefits (in the same amount).

So, there are no SSDI benefits payable to anyone beyond their full retirement age, thus there are no applications for SSDI once you reach your full retirement age.

Let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

Thanks very much,

Steve G.
