Hi. My name's Lane. You can either fille as married filing jointly or married filing separately. Filing as single isn't an option unless you divorce or the marriage ends in death or annulment.

...

But yes, you can CERTAINLY file as married filing separately - by simply checking that box on the return

I you haven't signed the return, or the electronic submission form, then the ONLY way they can file it is to forge your name

If you beat them to the punch and file your separate return (no signature needed from her) that that effectively blocks it

All you'll need is her Social Security number

Please let me know if you have ANY questions at all, before rating me.

If this has helped, and you DON’T have other questions … I'd appreciate a positive rating (using the stars or faces on your screen, and then clicking “submit")

I hope that you’ll rate me based on my accuracy and thoroughness, rather than any good news/bad news content.

That’s the only way JustAnswer.com will compensate me for the work here.

Thanks,

Lane
