Well, first of all, the tax returns weren't due on the 15th.

They are due today, Tuesday, the 18th.

So, you can still file for an automatic extension.

In order for your federal extension to be valid, you must have at least 90% of the tax due by today, so you may need to make a payment with your extension.

You didn't identify the state you are in so I don't know if you need a state extension or not.
