I was overpaid due to a company error in 2017. In January I was requested to return the over payment and I did so. I received a W2, and later received an amended W2. Box 1 was blank, but Medicare wages as well as New York State wages were reduced by the amount that I repaid, but I was told that IRS will not allow the wages to be reduced therefor Box 1 was left blank.
