What is the CP number on your notice? The notice (CP) or letter (LTR) number is ***** on the top right hand corner of your correspondence.

I waited for you to respond and tell me the notice number but the IRS could have sent you one of 2 (CP09 or CP27).

If it is CP09 that means that you field but based on your information you may be eligible for EIC but did not claim it on your return.

Complete the Earned Income Credit Eligibility Worksheet.

If you are eligible for the credit,

  • Sign and date the worksheet.
  • Mail the signed worksheet in the envelope provided.

If you are not eligible for the credit,

  • Do not return the worksheet to the IRS

If CP27, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Credit (EIC). The EIC is a credit for certain people who work and have earned income. People without dependent children may qualify for a refund up to $464, even if they do not owe any tax.
