I was divorced earlier this year. I know i will qualify as head of household because I have one child who will live with me full time. I know my tax bill will be $14,586. The IRS calculator says I should file as Head of Household with 2 dependents. But there is no "Head of Household" on the W4. What do I put down?

Greetings,

Since you are not married, use the Single check box on the Form W-4.

Head of household will be the filing status that will be used on the Form 1040 when filed after the end of the year.

Withholding tables only have Single and Married so you will use Single.

Please ask if you need more help or explanation.

Thank you.

So that would be "Single" with 2 dependents (myself and my son)?

Hello again,

That is correct, use 2

(Technically on the W-4 they are called allowances; but it really is the same thing as exemptions on the 1040. )

Please ask if you need more help or explanation.

Thank you.
