This answer was rated:

My mother lives with me. She get $1000.00 a month from Social Security and she spend that on her credit card bills. My mother is 84 years young. I pay all the rent, utilities and food. I also help her with her medicine. Her money does not go very far since she had these bills before she moved in with me. Is there anyway that I can claim her on my taxes since I really do pay for her living expenses?

Stephen E. Grizey :

Hi & thanks for using our service. I'll do my best to give you a complete & accurate answer. Please ask me to clarify anything you don't understand.

Stephen E. Grizey :

Are you married?

Stephen E. Grizey :

Does she have any other income?

Stephen E. Grizey :

If that's her only income, or almost all of it she doesn't need to file a tax return.

Customer:

no, yes i do furnish 1/2 of her support , that is her only income.

Customer:

how can i claim her on my taxes or is it possible?

Stephen E. Grizey :

No, you're not married?

Stephen E. Grizey :

Just say I am married or I am not married

Customer:

Customer:

The irs told me that I couldn't claim her is there a special form I need?

Stephen E. Grizey :

No. No special form. You list her on page one.

Stephen E. Grizey :

Did they tell you why? You can't get to anyone intelligent at the IRS until you go up through about 3 supervisors.

Stephen E. Grizey :

They just say No. to everything if they don't know the answer; they don't even know what to ask you.

Customer:

Stephen E. Grizey :
