I am on medical social security disability and last year when

Customer Question

I am on medical social security disability and last year when we filed taxes we were told we owed as my husband made too much money, he makes 70k/year. This year I am still receiving disability checks but my husband and I were separeted from February through September. Do we have to file married for the whole year? Thank you

You are required to file Married, either Joint or Separate, if you are legally married on December 31, 2010 UNLESS you meet the tests to be "considered unmarried". Since you lived together during the last six months of the year, this will not apply to you.

Sorry for the bad news,
