Hello mitchell,

There is no regulation which governs how long a tax preparer must keep tax records. This is mainly done as a courtesy and convenience to the client.

Ultimately it is the responsibility of the taxpayer to keep copies of his returns and back up documents, although most tax preparers do keep records for a minimum of 3 years.
