How do I find out if there’s a hold on my tax return?

Customer Question

How do I find out if there is a "hold" on my tax return?

You will find out when the IRS (or your state) notifies you that your refund has been seized.

If you cannot wait, you can contact the IRS (or your state government) to ask about the status of your refund.

I very strongly recommend that you do not do that, though. The government does sometimes miss your debts. Why remind them?

You can call IRS Refund Offset Hotline at 1-***-***-**** 24 hours daily to see if your federal refund will be held. Be prepared to write down another phone number which may be given quickly if you do have an amount that will be held.
