The manual key should unlock the driver door in the key hole. Is that not unlocking the car?

Customer
No it's not

Ok then the linkage or latch must be faulty. The key is the backup to unlock the door when it's locked or the battery is dead. In that case your only option is to use a lockout kit to unlock it or call an automotive locksmith out to unlock it for you.

Those would be your only two options. You'll have to get the latch fixed so the key will unlock the door. If your vehicle is still under warranty you can get Subaru roadside assistance. Here's their number: (###) ###-####

I am not sure how it locked. I opened the car started it. Cleaned the snow from the outside. The door closed when I clean the driver side window. Never touched the inside door panel.
Customer
The car is running

The door latch may also be frozen. You can try using a hair blow drier midway on the door where the latch is to see if you can warm it up and melt any ice. Be very careful though. You don't want to melt the paint.

Customer
I had AAA come and open the window and unlock the door. Turn the engine off. Both keys work, fob and door key. The only thing we could figure was the key that was in the car had to be the master key and would not allow the spare key to connect.

I'm glad you got it sorted out. Happy New Year!
