Subaru 2007 impreza outback sport - problems accelerating…

Customer Question
Subaru 2007 impreza outback...

Subaru 2007 impreza outback sport - problems accelerating and it seems that not all the gears engage. Will not accelerate over 65 mph. Running at 2000 to 3000 rpm jumps to 5000 rpm when trying to go from 35 to 65 mph.

Mechanic's Assistant: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the brake switch?

Original transmission. Parking break is not engaged

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Outback Sport yourself? What have you tried so far?

Just trying to identify issue. Could be something other than transmission

Automatic transmission

Ok, you are doing 35mph in 5th gear, and then you wish to accelerate to 65mph.

So if you depress the gas pedal, would you expect it downshift to accelerate?

Has it not done this before?

If you believe there is something wrong, then you should get the car to a Subaru workshop, and drive with one of their technicians.

Late model transmissions are electronically controlled.

They work well when there are correct, but can be erratic if there is an intermittent electrical issue.

I have experienced erratic behaviour many times in customers cars while testing.

Hope this helps.
