Hi, I have a...

Hi, I have a 04 subaru forester manual transmission, nonturbo. I have recently replaced my cv joints with an aftermarket brand. Once I did that, a single clicking noise happens every time I let off of the gas. I brought it to a shop and they told me that aftermarket CVS for Subarus are no good

Mechanic's Assistant: Has the clutch been slipping? Are you having any trouble shifting?

They told me I needed to get OEM CV axles and because it was only coming from the driver side I only got one OEM axle we put it in and for about 2 days it didn't make a sound and then it started happening again

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Forester yourself? What have you tried so far?

A friend is fixing it for me so far we change the CV joints because they were clicking around corners and the boot was torn. But we put an aftermarket CV joints and the people at the shop said to only use OEM when I got the OEM Parts they didn't work either

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

It's a single click sound it's not repetitive or continuous it only happens when I decelerate/let off of the gas pedal. The noise is worst in second and third gear

I would say since you only did one axle that the other one is still an issue and I've also seen a bunch of issues like this with aftermarket axles. The Cv joints on them tend to have slip in them and they'll click, if you're lowered they'll fail immediately it's something you either live with or spend exorbitant money on OEM axles. This is making the assumption you didn't leave anything lose when installing. If I've answered your question to your satisfaction please remember to hit accept next to my name as that's the only way the site compensates me for my time. You will still be able to ask follow up questions after hitting accept.
