Customer Question
My headlight are not...

My headlight are not working, started with the left and now the right went out

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the fuses? Have you checked the bulbs?

Checked fuses and they are fine. My husband checked the bulb on left and it was fine.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Subaru?

2014 crosstrek

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?

Just fuses and bulbs

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

My right brake light stoped working as the front left head light. Brights work just fine.

Tell me, did your husband actually replace the bulb (s) or just check them?

No he pulled them out and examined them to find they were not burned out

I hear a click in the dash on passenger side
Subaru Mechanic: Chris, Auto Service Technician replied 7 months ago
Ok, well it is tough to tell if a halogen headlight bulb is actually bad by looking at them. If the fuse is ok, and the high beams work, I recommend trying a new bulb first. I think that this may be the problem. I also say this because one went out, and then the other.

If your husband has a 12 volt test light handy, then he could verify that there is voltage at the bulb socket. If so, then it has to be the bulb.

When this first happened my left headlight and my left brake light went out at the same time
Subaru Mechanic: Chris, Auto Service Technician replied 7 months ago

Hmmm, it is possible that the vehicle's charging system is causing the voltage to be a little too high which can cause premature bulb failure. I have seen this before. Try a new bulb. If it does not work, then let me know and I will pull up the wiring diagrams and see what else it may be.
