I have a 2005...

I have a 2005 legacy not turbo charged. The check engine light has been on for 5000 miles but it has ran good until now it will not accel. it feels like it is choked off. I replaced the upstream O2 sensor on the driver side but did not help. is it possible the catalytic convertor is plugged?

Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?

It stays on

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Legacy yourself? What have you tried so far?

I am trying to fix it. I replaced the upstream sensor on the driver side.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I don't think so.

Hello I will help,

Yes the cat could be restricting the exhaust, The way to tell is to drop the exhaust from the bottom of the engine, it is unplug the O2 sensors and remove the three bolts on each exhaust flange. Let it hang on the hanger provided and run the engine, if it now accelerates the cat is restricting the exhaust.

A vacuum gauge can be used as well, if you see 20 inches of vacuum at idle and it drops as you hold the engine at a steady 2000-2500 rpm then the exhaust is restricted.

Please let me know how I can help you with this

Thanks
