Customer Question

My 2002 Forester high beams work, but low beams do not
JA: Have you checked the bulbs and fuses?
Customer: I replaced both bulbs 5 months ago without any problems when one side failed completely. Looked at fuses inside, but none were labeled for headlights, fuses did not look burnt.
JA: Are you fixing your Forester yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I am out of town, away from home for a week and this just happened last night.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: No thank you.

Hi . Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer.

have you checked the bulbs yet?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
It's night now and will need to wait until morning. How is it possible that both low beams went out at the same time while both of the high beams are still working?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Cannot call at the moment. Just want to know what to check if bulbs look okay.
Expert:  john -aka eauto replied 4 months ago.

when one goes out it causes a voltage spike and generally takes out the second bulb...thats the first step

low beam and hi beam are seperate filaments

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Ok. Thanks John. I will examine bulbs in the morning to see if the filament has broken for the low beams.
