The Trunk release latch on my 2006 imprezza stoped working

Customer Question

The Trunk release latch on my 2006 imprezza stoped working and now it only opens when I insert the keys from the ignition.
JA: Have you tried silicone spray or WD-40?
Customer: I have not tried that, where should I should I spray the wd-40
JA: What is the make/model of your car?
Customer: 2006 Subaru imprezza
JA: Are you fixing your Impreza yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I have tried pulling the lever slowly, and I have tried opening my trunk with my keys and then shutting it immediately and then pulling the trunk lever. I will most likely bring my vehicle to the used car dealership I bought it from
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: The trunk latch does not appear to be cracked and brokent

Hi there,

Perhaps you have operated the release cable lockout at the catch?

It prevents access to the boot if somebody breaks a window.

There is a tiny lever near the latch.
