Have Subaru Questions? Ask a Subaru Mechanic and Get Answers ASAP
Hello my name is***** am an ASE Master Technician and I am glad to help you with your question.
Could be a wheel bearing. Does the noise happen when the vehicle is not moving?
This could also be a rear differential problem, which then the entire differential would need to be replaced.

Need to have someone drive the car with all 4 wheels off the ground on jack stands or on a lift and use a stethoscope to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. We do this at the dealer all the time to find noises.
