Customer Question

Hi there. i have a 98 subaru wrx gc8. it is forever cranking and wont start. there is no spark fuel pump primes new coil pack new cam and crank angle sensors what else could it be?
JA: Are you certain it's the fuel pressure sensor that's in need of attention? What about the fuel rail? Have you checked it yet?
Customer: its getting fuel its not sparking at all have used another sparl lead and tested it no spark at all
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: yeah been working on it for months. it was running then just like stalled and hasnt started since. Replaced coil pack, cam and crank sensors
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: no nothing else i can think of

Hi there,

You need to scan for codes set, more than likely still logging a crank sensor code.

This is the original type engine for this model WRX, as there are changes in late engines that cause no start?

Problem is i cant move it anywhere to put it on the scan tool. but yeah no changes its stock standard basically

Hi again,

Is the cam timing correct, have you checked the timing belt?

Have you got a friend with a scan tool that can show engine data?

Need to see cranking rpm in data.

ive replaced everything. i believe it must be timing even though i already did it once does it have to be down to the tooth? or can it be out 1 or 2
Expert:  Gary replied 11 months ago.

Hi again,

You say new ECM as well?

Do you have the matching key?

1 tooth out on the cam timing will run but uneven, 2 teeth out on one acm wheel will be rough, 2 teeth out on the crank might not even start.
