2012 Subaru Legacy clicks when you go to start it then puts out a squalling sound and starts.Could this be the starter
JA: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
Customer: Not sure where noise is coming from just started doing it
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes I would like to fix myself if possible just checked battery to see if it's fully charged and cleaned battery cables.Im thinking it could be bearings in starter looking for your opionion
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: My Average gas mileage also seems to be dropping.

Hi there,

By your description, it does sound like the starter motor.

I would get a long screwdriver etc to listen the starter while you get a friend to start the engine.

Does it do it every time?
