Customer Question

2006 subaru outback. rebuilt engine. turbo. new starter and battery. starter turns easily but then car goes silent. all dash lights, outer lights, etc turn on so new battery seems fine. this happened three days ago. yesterday it started and drove fine except for a funny clicking sound coming from behind the dash, like the sound a cigarette lighter makes when you're trying to flick it. sound stopped after several minutes. ran errands with no prob.
now today, car turned over, then split second later everything went silent, just like before. jumps do not help. seems like some kind of short but don't know where to start.

This sounds like a immobilzer(security)issue,is there anything hooked up to the electrical system that is aftermarket? How many keys do you have and if more than 1 have you tried others, thanks

OMG. just had a new engine installed (rebuilt) and was switching back and forth from my original key to an aftermarket. the original key fires up the car just fine, the aftermarket causes the problem. so, I'll just take the aftermarket back to subaru and have it reprogramed. thank you..
