I have a 08 outback with the S drive Transmission. can't put it in I drive using the round control located on the console. It's stuck in S drive

Hi,are there any warning lights on the dash?A fault engine or transmission will not allow movement of the shift selector,we also have some switch faults due to there location on the center console(spills).If this is a switch that has not been used often it could be as simple as dirty contacts and using the selector knob repeatedly can bring it back to operation, thanks for your time.
