2004 Subaru Forester Auto won't shift back into reverse, and

Customer Question
park. Shifts out of park...
2004 Subaru Forester Auto won't shift back into reverse, and park. Shifts out of park fine, but noticed the solenoid relaxes a little from park to reverse, and then won't do anything when in neutral. Brake switch works fine. There is no voltage at the electrical connection when in neutral, but there is in reverse, and park.
Thanks

HI,
I am sorry that you have not been helped yet. I just came online and saw your question
Ok, first thing I need is the 17 digit VIN number so I can pull the correct schematics for the interlock system as well as the transmission range sensor and shifter assembly

1 test 15.4. #2 Test solenoid operates. #3 Test 1.1. #4 test moved shift lever to other than P position. I don't think my tester has that ohm selection. Tried all of them, 2000k-200k-20k-2000-200. Any suggestions
Subaru Mechanic: Eric, Automotive Repair Shop Manager replied 2 years ago
HI,
Ok, according to step 1, it should be between 20-40ohms and yours tested at 15.4ohms, which is way below specs.
Going by the first test and results, you should replace both the shift lock solenoid and the P position switch assembly

HI,
Did you replace the P position switch as well?

The P switch is fine, it works as it should. on, off.
Subaru Mechanic: Eric, Automotive Repair Shop Manager replied 2 years ago
HI,
According to Subaru's engineers that developed the testing procedure I uploaded, it isnt and should have been replaced at same time as shift interlock solenoid. Read step 1 again in it. If it doesnt read between 20-40ohms, replace BOTH the shift lock solenoid and the P position switch.
