2001 legacy outback: lower ball joints..the pinch bolt or the spindle

This answer was rated:

2001 legacy outback wagaon needs front lower ball joints replaced. How can you remove the ball joint without breaking the pinch bolt or the spindle?
GreetingsCustomerand welcome to JA! I will do my very best to assist you with your problem.
Hi there!
I usually heat the spindle to get the pinch bolt out, then use a chisel to walk it out of the spindle assembly.
Not sure if that helps, but that is how I do it.

Wish it was that easy. Don't you hurt the spindle by heating it?
You won't damage it. I never have. You don't need to make it super hot, but also need to spray penetrating oil in it.
I wish I could tell you that I have never broken the bolt this way, but I can't. It just works more often then not. Also, once the bolt is out, don't try to open the spindle up, all you can do is get the lip of the joint with the chisel.
If you have an air hammer with the chisel attachment it works best.
