I'm needing help sizing a beam. Let me start by saying what
Let me start by saying what little I know about Beam's is what I've researched. I'm in no way a engineer. I am going to remove a wall in our house and replace it with a LVL beam. It will be a drop beam finished with drywall. It's my understanding that this is not a load bearing wall. I'm not really sure. My house has manufactured roof trusses. Nine of the trusses in this room are supported by a outside walls on both ends and four by a outside wall on one side and steel I beam on the other end. The I-Beam goes the entire length of house and is supported by post's in the basement. The room size is 24' x 19'. It is a vaulted ceiling if that matters.I'm wanting to use Boise Cascade Versa-Lam 2.1 3100 lvl beams. I can make it a double or triple ply.If possible I would like to use the 1 3/4” x 9 1/4” x 24'. If that's not possible could I use the 1 3/4” x 11 7/8” size.I have some photos of the house plans if you would like to see them. … read more
