I would like to span 34'. The beam most support the union of gable roof rafters (15' 1956 stick framing) and a 15' shed roof

Tutor's Assistant: OK. Tell me a bit more about what's going on so we can help you best.

There is a an old gable roof thatt terminates on beam and a shed roof that begins from same plane (5' higher than terminus of gable roof)

Tutor's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Structural Engineer should know?
