I want to make...

I want to make a 18’ opening for a single garage door. Roof truss at 24” on center. Composite roofing with 2 x 4 supporting walls, what size beam do I need and what is suitable temporary support while I remove the existing 4 1/2” x 9” beam?

Tutor's Assistant: OK. Is there anything else the Structural Engineer should be aware of?

End support for the beam is currently 2 2 x 4 on a concrete stem post, I am thinking that it is not reinforced as this house was built in 74 can I take a 4 x 6 post to the concrete floor

Quick question, can I put the 3 laminated above the 4 x 10 select already in place or do I have to remove the beam.

Is there enough space above the existing beam and below the bottom of the trusses?

I have just over 14”, it will be a bit tricky to get it in, but it will fit
