I would like to open up two rooms in my basement into one

Customer Question

I would like to open up two rooms in my basement into one large room. It is a 2 story house. The two rooms are 14' x 14' and 14' x 16'. The opening I want to create is 12' wide with about 20-24" on each side ot sit the Header on. My question is how big of a header (Beam) do I need to span 12 feet opening with
JA: OK. Is there anything else the Structural Engineer should be aware of?
Customer: The wall I want to take out is a load bearing wall. The beam I will install runs perpendicular to the floor joist above
