I am having a pergola built. I have a 6x12 cedar beam

Customer Question

I am having a pergola built. I have a 6x12 cedar beam spanning 15.3ft, At almost a midpoint, 6 ft to be exact, a 14ft beam ties into the side ond on the other side a 9 ft beam also ties into it. These are also 6X12 ". On top of these beams sit ___ 2x6 cedar beams. 13 of these 2x6 have 1/2 of their ave length of about 10-12 ft carried by this beam. On a perimeter beam, it spans 14.5 ft carrying 1/2 weight of 8 2x6"s. Can I take the post out from under the 16 footer and let it support itself? This is pretty much in the middle of the pergola.
JA: OK. Is there anything else important you think the Structural Engineer should know?
