I'm building a deck off my cabin and my posts are 8' apart.

Customer Question

Hi, I'm building a deck off my cabin and my posts are 8' apart. I want to make my ledger board a 2x12 syp, attached to the outside of the post and hang 2x8 joist from cabin to post. Do i need to double up the 2x12 on the post? the span is 8' for the joist on one side and 12' feet on the other. I'm using 2x10 joist for the 12' span. Northern Wisconsin
JA: OK. Is there anything else important you think the Structural Engineer should know?
