You can use a ridge beam of any length, it's just that the span will dictate the size. A ridge beam needs to be supported at each end, so unless you want to drop a post every time you start and stop the ridge beam, you can't mix the two. The only exception to that would depend what the building cross section looks like. If your section allows for it, you could mix the two without a post.
If you want to continue this further, I will be happy to submit an additional service offer to look at this option of mixing the two, but I'll need to see a section looking parallel to the ridge of the roof.
