I need to size some i beams for a residential project

Tutor's Assistant: OK. Tell me a bit more about what's going on so we can help you best.

I am vaulting a portion of a 1975 residence in san Antonio TX...current design is standard gable with center gable studs approx. 6' above current finished ceiling height of 8'…currently room separating load bearing walls support random Gable studs above ...open space will be approx. 20'wide (in-line with Ridge board) by 40' long, 20' to either side of ridge board...plan is to place 3 pairs of column supports on sides of open space, under ridge board, and at half distance to either side, columns to be structurally connected into existing load bearing wall that will remain…these will support the spanning I beams...which I need sized...balance of roof construction is 2x6 rafters, 1/2" plywood, tar paper, and asphalt roof shingle

It's unclear from the description if you want just a ridge beam or if you want more beams parallel to the ridge, but not directly under it. Can you clarify or post a sketch?
