Im looking to decrease the depth of floor joists

Customer Question

Im looking for options to decrease the depth of floor joists in part of a renovated basement. 1916 house, 2x8 nominal floor joists gives a 6'-8" clear height in the basement. Barely. If I put in flor and ceiling finishes, it will be less than 6'-8" clear height, which is local code for habitable space. Was looking at Light steel beams, but shallowest is 7.9".
