That beam will definitely not span 24' in place of a bearing wall. I can size the beam for you, but I'll have to ask you some questions.

That makes a big difference. What is the joist length on each side of the beam? Is it supporting one floor or two? What about an attic? Will it support any ceramic tile?

12' joist length bedrooms with 8' ceilings 4' h to the center of the atticc trusses

Unfortunately, that beam is not strong enough. Would you like me to size an LVL for you?

Yes im sure my only option is gluelam possibly 5 1/8" X 10 or 12"???

I'll give you a couple options.
You can use a 5.125" x 12" 24F-V8 glulam or a 5.25" x 11.25" 1.9E LVL
