StructuralEng : It's holding up a second floor on the addition and the existing home? And the roof on the addition and existing home? What about the attic?

There is very little space just enough for the hvac duct work.
Customer:
the room sddition is 42 feet long & 16' 6" wide
StructuralEng : How many floors will it support on each side?
StructuralEng : ehat is the joist length on the existing house side?
Customer:
this is a new addition, these rooms are over a new garage, over the beam is 1 floor with 2x12 14 foot long. going to a 5 1/4" x 14" beam in the middle of the garage.
StructuralEng : So this will support one floor, one attic, and the roof, correct? It's the exterior wall of the addition, so no load from the existing side?

A 7" x 16" 2.0E LVL will work for strength and limit deflection to approximately 1/2" under a full design load.
StructuralEng :
You'll need to have a local engineer size the support posts and footing requirements and design and detail the connections.

W8x48 or W10x33 ASTM A992 Gr. 50. The first number is XXXXX depth in inches and the second number is XXXXX weight of the beam in pounds per foot.
